The Promenade and Staircase

"Upon entering the hotel one proceeds up a beautiful stairway built of Breche Violette marble imported from France and trimmed with yellow Sienna marble from Italy with red rope guard rails on each side. The stairway, which is covered with soft gray green carpet leads up to the main lobby lounge floor which occupies a considerable part of the second story. It is composed of a medium sized entrance foyer surrounding the stairway well and a long lobby and lounge running two thirds of the full length of the hotel along the Michigan avenue side."
