For
nearly 80 years a handsome brick church stood proudly
far down East Jefferson Ave. The handsome Gothic structure
and its ample social and educational facilities were
a testament to the wealth of its congregation as well
as Detroit as a whole.
It
eventually fell into the cycle of decline that doomed
so many other structures. The original congregating
passed it on to a successor and in time the inheritors
were pigeons, vandals and explorers. In spring of 2005
Jefferson Avenue Baptist fell to the wreckers.
The
following is my pitiful attempt to document this wonderful
building.
