This tiny structure is one of the most beautiful and
significant buildings downtown. The National Theater
is the sole survivor of Detroit's original theater district.
Today it stands surrounded by parking facilities.
Suffering from both the larger movie palaces and later
economic downturn the National slowly declined and closed
by the 70's. Presently it sits in poor but salvagable
condition. It is hoped that present development nearby
will touch one of downtowns faded jewels.
